Anthony H. Alter, M.D.
Dr. Alter has been practicing orthopedic surgery in Los Angeles for 40 years. He is a general orthopedist with special interest in spine and pediatric orthopedics. At this point 50% of the patient he cares for have spinal problems. He is currently enjoying his role as a senior orthopaedist in the community focusing on the non-operative care of orthopaedic clinical problems. This continues to include “second-opinion” consultations.
After graduating as a mathematic major from Cornell University , Dr. Alter earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School . He completed his orthopedic residency also at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago .
Dr. Alter served as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps, which included a tour in Viet Nam in the Second Surgery Field Hospital for which he earned a Bronze Star Dr. Alter was a Clinical Associate Professor at UCLA Medical Center and is an attending physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center . He has been involved in medical staff leadership roles for most of his 40 years, including a recent tour as Clinical Chairman for the Department of Surgery. He is currently the Director of Quality Assurance for the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai.
Dr, Alter is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and is member of numerous other professional organizations.
Dr. Alter has co-authored articles on total hip replacement, total knee replacement, amputations and some elements of hand surgery. He has also served as an editor for the Journal of Pediatric Surgery.
